R.I.P.: Lily of the field.

Though I was always more of an Addam's Family kind of guy, news that Yvonne De Carlo passed away is still a sad, sad thing.

The painting above is by Isabel Samaras. Warning: not all Samaras's stuff is workplace-friendly.

The choice of Isabel Samaras' painting is inspired! I like her art alot, although to say I'm a big fan of hers is misleading. I was introduced to her wonderfully surreal and affectionate work through the pages of JUXTAPOZ magazine.
I was mostly familiar with Yvonne DeCarlo as Lily Munster although I knew she had a film career prior to TV. Strangely, I don't think of her at all in connection with THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. For some reason my brain only remembers Charlton Heston, Edward G. Robinson ("Where's your Moses NOW!"), Yul Brynner and John Derek, who my mom remembers as being really hot.
Instead, I saw her for just a few minutes in some movie on TCM years ago where she played a mulatto, and THAT sticks in my head! Had to find it on IMDb, and it turns out it was BAND OF ANGELS (1957),directed by Raoul Walsh, with Clark Gable as a plantation owner who buys DeCarlo when her mixed heritage is revealed, and also has Sidney Poitier!
Checking out her filmography is pretty interesting, which includes NOCTURNA (1979), some weird forgotten horror comedy with John Carradine as Dracula, and DeCarlo as Jugula(!).

Looking at old-school, I dunno. It's a hard toss-up between Raoul Julia and (I had to look his name up) Fred Gwynne..

Alas, Raoul ended with 'Street Fighter', a rather ignoble film to end ones career on (even with Van DAMMAGE), while Fred had 'My Cousin Vinny'.. So I'd have to score for the Munsters.

Screamin' Sassy,

I was think more thew television show, rather than the movie.

And, as a kid, I thought the Addam's were cooler than the Munsters. That had the cooler house.

Hey, thanks for posting my painting -- the world is a poorer place without Yvonne in it. FYI -- a print of this painting ("The Lily") will be up for a charity auction today/tonight.

I don't make a dime off this (it's a fundraiser) -- feel free to pass the info on to anyone else you think would be interested.

Keep On Keepin' On,

Isabel
