Art: Halloween it ain't.

In April, I posted a series of photographs that were group pics taken of people with gas masks on. Today we're revisiting the concept, but we're highlighting the possibly creepier theme of children in gas masks.

It's hard to think of anything more symbolic of the many ways in which the adults strive to thoroughly corrupt and poison the world their children must live in than the image of a child in a gas mask. That the children in these pics are often posed for shots in which they play or hang with their families – as if to say, hey, even a full-spectrum bio-chemo-nuclear holocaust won't be all bad – makes it all the more strange and disheartening.

they're all great but pic #2 is gonna be this week's screen saver.

I had the last one pegged at the winner. I thought the whole surreal "even after the bio-chem holocaust, the Johnson's stay on the go" look of it would appeal.

And, of course, this series reminds me of the creepiest kid in a gas mask I've ever seen: the one from the Doctor Who episode "The Empty Child." Never has the phrase "Are you my mummy?" been used to a more chilling effect.

That last one reminds me of some subgenius type tripe.. That the dad just needs a pipe, and he's Bob..

Now I wonder if that "for everything, there is porn for it" rule/law applies to gas masks too.. (Man, I'm losing my internet cred.. I can't remember the name for that rule/law..)

Screamin' Toxie,

I've never been a big Dr. Who fan, but the images from the viewers guide alone make my want to see that episode. Thanks for the lead.

Screamin' Sassy,

Good ol' Rule 34!

And yes, there's definitely gas mask smut out there. Maybe, someday, if I get bold enough, we'll do a post on it.

CRwM, that double-episode is probably my favorite Doctor Who ever, and I'm a pretty big fan. (me, of the Doctor Who ringtone...)
