well, without seeing the movies, this seems more or less a straight forward animation exercise/homage.
It's competently put together, but there is an "eww!" factor in that the filmmaker seems fairly serious about what he's doing.
Interesting. And more so I think about "fan fiction/youtube fiction" culture in general.
