Sorry to wait so long to post a comment, but I felt this one truly deserves one. From chats with Miss Heather, and some emails exchanged with Mr Cattleworks, I have come to appreciate how hard maintaining a blog can truly be.

To me it would seem getting over that first one year hurdle should make the rest a bit easier. Hope so anyway.

I did enjoy your list, and smiled at several I saw there. I am sort of rolling my eyes a bit though at the entire concept too. Create a list of my 31 favorite horrors of all time - are you trying to drive me crazy, lol. For me I think that would simply be a task far too daunting to even want to start. I would spend so much time finishing version 23, 33, or 43 of my list only to sigh loudly, cuss, and recall one I really love and now have to struggle with dropping number 31 and figuring out where to put the new one in my list.

I think the entire process would end up frustrating me so much that I would just give it. So a bit hat tip for being able to accomplish something that to me would be MAJOR in and of itself sir.

Being a somewhat cranky ole fart by nature and life's experiences, I tend to agree with you totally too. It is your list. Anyone who feels the burning need to question why not movie x, should sit down and crank out their own 31 personal favorites. Besides with all the great horror flicks out there of various flavors and themes, think of just how boring horrors would be if we all like the same 31 titles.

But again sir, congrads on your first year anniversary. I look forward to posting the same for year two (tips my hat).

Sorry not to have posted before too. But as someone who was truly impressed with himself when he switched over from a manual to an electric typewriter, I have just set a new personal record of sorts. I can now say I have posted comments on 3 blogs, lol.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34993991.post-9033790976456931072007-09-27T16:21:00.000-04:002007-09-27T16:21:00.000-04:00Ed,This is one blogger who plays by the rules. I'll cut and paste this mess into an email and shoot it on over to Shoot the Projectionist.

Screamers and Screamettes, I encourage you to get in on this action too. (Though I guess MST3k kinda did the remake anyway..). It Came From Hollywood was my young-child favorite 'horror' movie.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34993991.post-61595896183086702822007-09-27T08:29:00.000-04:002007-09-27T08:29:00.000-04:00Though my first reaction was, "what, no EXORCIST?"...Though my first reaction was, "what, no EXORCIST?" you more than made up for it with thoughtful gems like GINGER SNAPS 2.
Not that I saw either the first or second one, but you did and you obviously thought highly of it.
Variety is the spice of life!

To meander, I'm reminded of all these lists of Top Albums of the 70s (back in 1980, natch!) and almost all the lists had
"Whos Next" and "Born to Run" and then I came across a list where the Who and the Boss were absent, but it had Patti Smith's "Horses" and Stevie Wonder's "Innervisions" and I was like, uh, but what about... wait, what are these?
"Horses" is now one of my favorite albums.
So, bla bla bla...
I echo Mr. Hardy's comment of moral support!

And I wasn't shocked, but it actually warmed my heart to see your oft-mentioned fave, CREATURE OF THE BLACK LAGOON. I don't know if I ever saw it in its entirety, but after Joe Bob Briggs' take on it in his book Profoundly Disturbing (specifically re: Julie Adams and her hot one-piece French bathing suit), I have additional incentive to check out the Gill-man soon!

Awesome list!
Awesome blog!
Awesome Anniversary!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34993991.post-90660378696800450102007-09-26T23:20:00.000-04:002007-09-26T23:20:00.000-04:00Don't justify leaving something off of your list! ...Don't justify leaving something off of your list! If you don't think one of Sam Raimi's movies is one of the 31 greatest, you shouldn't include one for political reasons, because Raimi's a great and "deserves" to be included. Anyway, rant over.

So can I consider this your official entry into the 31 Flicks That Give You the Willies list at Shoot the Projectionist?Eddie Hardy https://www.blogger.com/profile/03822880732325834062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34993991.post-6171788364216862812007-09-25T15:39:00.000-04:002007-09-25T15:39:00.000-04:00Thank you all for reading. But before I get to my w...Thank you all for reading.

But before I get to my weasel-like self-justifications – I encourage everybody to shoot of their own top 31 to "Shoot the Projectionist." You don't want Ginger Snaps 2 being listed in the top 100 of all time, do you? Horror expects every man (and most of the ladies) to do their duty.

Now, to answer all the "but what about . . . "

My first, and most all-purpose defense is this: its my list, mutha-hubbards. If you're so damn smart, how come you ain't got no lists?

Now that that's out of the way . . . There are a few flicks that, not long after I published post, I thought, "Well, damn."

Notably, I wish I had dumped some of the flicks and made room for American Werewolf and Halloween. I ponder adding those flicks and, somehow, talked myself out of it. Now, in retrospect, it seems kinda silly. I guess with Halloween I figured since I had the daddy of all slasher flicks, Psycho, and my favorite exemplary slasher, TCM, already on the list, I didn't need any others there too (dude, I've only got 31 slots). But that seems like a lame defense considering I've got plenty of serial killers and outsized animals. (This was the same thinking behind not including Friday the 13th 1 and/or 2, both of which were up for consideration.) As for American Werewolf, I'm torn on that one. That's another film that's special to me for sentimental reasons: I saw it and its not-so-hot sequel in theaters with my dad. But, honestly, I find it a little dull.

And The Thing didn't make the list solely because I wasn't going to use two slots up for an original and its remake. That's the only reason.CRwMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07896615209770501945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34993991.post-70929466330856507532007-09-25T14:34:00.000-04:002007-09-25T14:34:00.000-04:00Congrats and well done, CRwM. But I think you did a good job. It's nice to see the Shining (one of the few movies which actually scared me so bad it fucked me up for a while) get its well-deserved due.

That said, how can you have left off:

The Exorcist
The Thing
Friday the 13th
Nightmare on Elm Street
Evil Dead 1/2/3
Poltergeist

???Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34993991.post-84464273769413394762007-09-25T13:42:00.000-04:002007-09-25T13:42:00.000-04:00Hoo boy, I can't believe you stooped to doing a li...Hoo boy, I can't believe you stooped to doing a list! Well it's about time.

I like how you kicked it off with your first horror movie viewing experience. It's a great personal list, and gives me more stuff to add to my "must see" list.

My best guess as to my first horror would be watching the 1931 Frankenstein at a relative's house. I recall finding the whole thing - the monster, the black & white, the ancient technology, the mob - all very disturbing.

With regards to Jaws, even though it did scare the crap out of me as a kid, I've always felt it was more of an adventure flick than a horror. But one of my all-time favourite movies nonetheless. And I'd also place TCM very high on my own list.

I had no idea John McNaughton directed Henry. That's just too weird.

Now, what list would be complete without some "where the heck is..." comments from the peanut gallery. So, where the heck is: American Werewolf, Carpenter's The Thing, Cronenberg's Videodrome or The Fly? (Can you guess what era of horror is my favourite?)spacejackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14902182763527176185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34993991.post-56470422129016320452007-09-25T13:27:00.000-04:002007-09-25T13:27:00.000-04:00Congrats CRwM!
