Though the tone does shift at that point to more of a sort of black comedy gross-out and if you really liked the gothic mood of the first three quarters of the flick, I can see how it is a let down.<BR/><BR/>But what's the alternative? It would feel more like a classic horror tale (something out of Poe or Hawthorne) if you let Haeckel go to be haunted forever by what he saw. But if you don't start offing characters in that scene, you can't have the punchline at the end of the flick.
